Total knee replacement rehabilitation in Standish, Wigan

Rebuild knee movement, strength and confidence with walking and stairs after total knee replacement, alongside your hospital team’s advice.

Work towards the everyday tasks that matter

After a total knee replacement, getting out of a chair, walking outdoors or managing stairs can become important goals. At 360 Healthcare Hub, we help turn those goals into a rehabilitation plan that reflects your current ability and your surgical team’s instructions.

How we approach it

Your first appointment includes a review of your surgery, discharge guidance, current exercises and difficulties at home. We assess knee movement, strength and functional tasks where appropriate, then agree what to work on and how to review progress.

Movement, strength and everyday confidence

Rehabilitation may focus on knee bending and straightening, muscle strength and control, and gradually building tolerance for daily activity. We choose the level of exercise around what you can currently manage and any restrictions from your surgical team.

  • Getting up from a chair with greater confidence.
  • Improving walking ability and gradually increasing comfortable distances.
  • Building control for stepping up and coming downstairs.
  • Preparing for suitable exercise, work and leisure activities.

A plan you can follow between appointments

We explain your exercises, discuss how they fit into your day and review how your knee responds. The aim is to give you clear next steps, with progression based on your recovery rather than a fixed number of sessions.

Bring your discharge summary, current exercise programme and any relevant clinic letters. Continue your prescribed hospital exercises and follow-up appointments; we work with that guidance when planning additional support.

How long will rehabilitation take?

Recovery after total knee replacement may take several months or longer. Your starting ability, health and operation influence progress, so we cannot promise an exact date for recovery or return to a particular activity.

Follow your hospital’s guidance about walking aids, swelling management and activity restrictions. Read the NHS knee replacement recovery guidance. Contact your surgical team about new or worsening symptoms rather than waiting for your next rehabilitation session.
